 THURSDAY 10 MARCH 2016 – 5.30pm: “Carving a Career in Writing”

Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, InterContinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City

What does it mean to “be a writer”? In this workshop, I’ll walk you through the different skills required to be a novelist, journalist, blogger and editor, drawing on my experience wearing all those hats. If you want to work with words but don’t know where to start, this is the workshop for you!

THURSDAY 10 MARCH 2016 – 10am: “Writing Women”  (panel discussion)

Emirates Airline Festival of Literature, InterContinental Hotel, Dubai Festival City

Come and join authors Ann Cleeves, Gill Hornby, Freya North and myself as we discuss the common thread in our books – authentic female protagonists, backed up by equally richly drawn supporting casts. In a literary world that does not always respect women’s experiences or achievements, find out how today’s panellists find success through writing women.

Ann Cleeves is the author of the Vera Stanhope series, most recently The Moth Catcher, featuring the troubled DCI played on screen by Brenda Blethyn.

Gill Hornby’s first novel, The Hive, examined the social power dynamics among mothers of schoolchildren. All Together Now visits another small female-led community, a village choir.

Freya North’s novels, most recently The Turning Point, have been praised for their emotional honesty and strong female leads.

Annabel Kantaria won the first Montegrappa Prize for Coming Home, about a woman confronting her family’s past. Her second novel, The Disappearance, will be released during the Festival.

Tickets AED 70. Available here.
